Sepiolite

What’s Sepiolite?

Sepiolite is a naturally occurring clay mineral of sedimentary origin. It is a non swelling, lightweight, porous clay with a large specific surface area. Chemically, sepiolite is a hydrous magnesium silicate whose individual particles have a needle-like morphology. The high surface area and porosity of this clay accounts for its outstanding absorption capacity for liquids.

Sepiolite is a silicate clay mineral in fiber which is rich in magnesium, and it is also called mangnesium and silicate mineral in moisture chain layers.

It can be divided into:

1.Soil sepiolite (stereoplasm sepiolite) coming from deposition,

2.Massiveness sepiolite (light sepiolite) coming from hydrothermal deposit.

Sepiolite Physical Characteristics:

1 Different colors: White, Pale yellow, light gray, dark green and etc.

2 Hardness: 2-2.5

3 Density: 1-2.3

4 High-temperature resistance

5 Absorbability: it can absorb 150% more than its own weight

Sepiolite Applications:

1.Friction materials —brake pad, brake shoe, gasket, and brake lining etc.

2.Sealing materials —-asbestos rubber board and non-asbestos rubber board.

3.Thermal insulation materials—heat-preservation,fire-proof,wall coating materials.

4.Fiber cement materials—-fiber cement pressure board, fiber cement pipe.
